The Monastery, whose origins date back to the 9th century, owes its present appearance to the reconstruction carried out in the 18th century, after a fire destroyed the entire complex. Of neoclassical style, its plan is organized in two gigantic bodies built around two courtyards or cloisters, which today house 86 rooms spread over three floors.
Given the complexity of the rehabilitation of the entire complex, it required the joint work of a group of renowned professionals, coordinated by the architect José María Pérez González, better known as Peridis. His work placed special emphasis on the recovery of the original elements of the Monastery, such as doors, windows, floors, ironwork…, most of which were restored and adapted to their new environment. Above: the Muniellos lounge, for guests, is framed by the vaulted ceiling of the old monastery.
For the interior design of the common areas and the three suites, we had the exclusive collaboration of decorators Luis Galliusi, Pepe Leal and Erico Navazo. Sisters Covadonga and María Teresa Clavería, from the studio El 30 de Campoamor, were in charge of the decoration of the rest of the rooms. The Parador de Corias has such unique spaces as the old library, now converted into a reading room «La Regenta». This spectacular room was painted in turquoise blue, which evokes the sky, rivers and sea of Asturias in summer. The Portuguese artist Rui Macedo was in charge of the installation of empty frames on the walls.
